Free Printable Christmas Pass the Gift Game

Free Printable Christmas Pass the Gift Game – A free printable Christmas Pass the Gift game is one of the easiest ways to run a holiday gift exchange without a long rule sheet. Guests sit in a circle, a wrapped present moves from hand to hand, and the person holding it when the story or prompts end keeps the prize. It works for family Christmas Eve, classroom parties, church gatherings, and office celebrations across the United States.

This page explains how the game works, what to print, and where to get legitimate free printables you can use at home. Every download linked below is offered free by the publisher. Some are instant PDFs. One asks for an email before the file unlocks. None of the links below are paid shops.

What a Christmas Pass the Gift Game Is?

Pass the Gift is a circle game built around one present, or one present per player. You may also see it called Pass the Present, Pass the Parcel, or a left-right Christmas game. The host reads a short story or a set of prompts. Players pass the gift left, right, across the circle, or to a person who matches a clue.

It is different from a classic White Elephant or Dirty Santa exchange. Those games usually use steal turns and a set number of rounds. Pass the Gift is driven by a script, so the host stays in control and younger kids can follow along. It also needs almost no supplies beyond paper, a printer, and a wrapped gift.

Most free printables are written for US Letter paper, 8.5 by 11 inches, so they fit a standard home or school printer.

How to Play Pass the Gift?

You can run the game in about 10 to 15 minutes. Pick one style before guests arrive so the rules stay clear.

One-gift story version. Seat everyone in a circle. Hand one wrapped gift to the starting player. Read the printable aloud. Each time the story says left or right, the holder passes the gift that way. The person holding it at the last line keeps it and opens it.

Everyone-brings-a-gift version. Each guest starts with a wrapped present of similar value. Pass every gift at the same time when the reader says left, right, or across. When the story ends, each person keeps the gift in their hands. This is the better fit for an office Secret Santa alternative or a classroom exchange.

Clue or riddle version. Instead of left and right, each card names who gets the parcel next, such as the person in the most red, the guest nearest the tree, or the player two seats to the right. The last clue decides the winner.

Agree on ties before you start. If two people match a clue, the current holder chooses, or the group votes. For left and right, point out each direction once so kids and guests facing inward do not get turned around.

What to Print and Bring?

Print on regular letter paper or light cardstock. One copy of the story is enough for the reader. For a dice or prompt card, print a second copy so players can see the key. A pencil is useful only if you want to check off clues you plan to skip.

Gift ideas that travel well in a US party setting include hot cocoa kits, candy canes, holiday socks, a small gift card, classroom pencils and stickers, or a $10 to $15 grab-bag item. Set a spending cap in the invitation if everyone brings a present. Wrap in plain paper so no one can track a favorite package during the passing.

For a classroom, use one teacher-supplied prize, or ask families for a small new item under a set dollar amount. For an office party, a single grand prize keeps the game short between other activities.

Easy Variations for Any Group Size

Small family groups of four to eight do best with one gift and a short left-right story. Larger parties can split into two circles so the passing stays fast. Mixed ages can use the riddle version, because clues such as “wearing the most red” let adults and kids play together.

To stretch one printable, read it twice with a new gift, or switch from a story round to the dice card. Skip any line that does not fit your room, such as a clue about a Christmas tree if you are in a classroom without one.
