The Lord’s Prayer in the King James Version
Here is the full text of the Lord’s Prayer as it appears in the King James Version (Matthew 6:9-13):
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
This version includes the traditional doxology at the end, which many Protestant congregations in the United States recite. The language is formal and majestic, reflecting the early modern English of the 1611 Authorized Version (standardized in the 1769 revision most commonly used today).
