What Snowman Soup Is?
Snowman soup is not a recipe you simmer. It is a single-serve hot chocolate kit with a short poem that tells the recipient how to mix it. The usual bag holds a cocoa packet, mini marshmallows (the “snowballs”), a wrapped candy cane for stirring, and sometimes chocolate kisses.
The poem does the rest. It names the gift, explains the stir stick, and warns that the drink is hot. That is why people search for a snowman soup poem printable instead of a recipe card.

A Common Snowman Soup Poem
Wording varies by designer. A widely shared version, often listed as author unknown, reads:
Was told you’ve been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You’ll need to warm the spirit.
So here’s a little Snowman Soup,
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It’s sure to do the trick!
Other free tags use a “let it snow” rhyme or a short note about mixing water and chocolate and stirring with the peppermint stick. Use the poem that is printed on the file you download so the tag and the instructions match.

How to Assemble the Gift?
One bag takes about a minute once supplies are out.
Put one hot cocoa packet in a snack or sandwich bag. Add about a dozen mini marshmallows and two or three wrapped chocolate kisses. Lay a wrapped candy cane on top, or tape it to the outside as the stir stick. Seal the bag, then staple, tape, or hole-punch the printed poem to the top.
For a fuller gift, drop the sealed bag into a plain white paper cup and draw a snowman face on the cup. A red ribbon and a small jingle bell finish the look. Dollar-store mugs work the same way if you are making fewer bags.
Allergy note for classroom sets: cocoa mixes and kisses often contain milk, and candy canes are a choking risk for very young children. Check your school’s treat rules before you send bags home.
Printing Tips for U.S. Home Printers
Choose “actual size” or 100 percent scale so tags are not shrunk. Letter paper is the size these files are built for. Color looks best on the One Little Project sheet. Black-and-white is enough for a 20- or 25-student class.
Cut with a paper trimmer if you have one. A bone folder, or the back of a spoon, makes a clean fold on tent-style cards. Personal-use printables are for your own gifts, not for resale.
FAQ
Is the snowman soup poem free printable really free?
Yes, on the pages linked above. The One Little Project PDF opens without an email form. Davonne Parks and Homemade Gifts Made Easy also offer free files. The Teachers Pay Teachers label is $0, but you need a free account to download it.
What do you put in snowman soup?
A hot cocoa packet, mini marshmallows, a candy cane, and optional chocolate kisses. The poem tag is the part that makes it “soup” instead of a plain cocoa favor.
Can I use these tags for a whole class?
Yes for personal and classroom gifts. Do not sell the printed tags or the PDF. Happy Holidays wording is the safer choice for public-school bags.
What paper size should I use?
U.S. letter, 8.5 by 11 inches. Card stock is sturdier for bag toppers. Print double-sided only when the file includes a back, as the One Little Project template does.
