Free Printable Christmas Jar Labels Guide

Free Printable Christmas Jar Labels Guide – Free printable Christmas labels for jars are the easiest way to turn a plain mason jar into a gift that looks finished. A round lid topper, a side label, or a hang tag can dress up hot cocoa mix, cookie mix, jam, candied nuts, or a jar of candy for neighbors, teachers, and coworkers.

Most of the files below are ready-to-print PDFs for personal use. One official tool lets you design your own jar label and print it on blank label sheets you already own. All of them work on a home inkjet or laser printer and US Letter paper.

What these labels are for?

A Christmas jar label does two jobs. It names what is inside, and it makes the jar look like a gift instead of a pantry leftover.

Common uses in the United States include:

  • Layered cookie, brownie, or soup mixes in pint jars
  • Homemade jam, hot fudge, or caramel sauce
  • Candy, snack mix, or bath salts
  • Pantry organization for holiday spices and baking supplies

Standard Ball and Kerr mason jars are the usual size target. Regular-mouth lids are about 2.75 inches across. Wide-mouth lids are about 3.38 inches across. A 2-inch to 2.5-inch circle sits neatly on a regular lid. A 2.75-inch to 3-inch circle works better on a wide-mouth lid or as a topper that shows through the ring.

Where to get legitimate free printables?

These five sources publish free files or a free design tool. Personal-use rules apply on the craft sites, so do not resell the files or the printed sheets.

Editable Christmas canning labels. My Frugal Home offers free editable Christmas canning jar labels in regular-mouth and wide-mouth sizes. Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader, type the contents and your name into the fields, then print at actual size on full-sheet label paper. The page recommends Avery 8165 for inkjet printers and Avery 5265 for laser printers. Download both sizes from the printable canning jar labels page.

Holly-and-berry circle labels. A Cultivated Nest publishes a free sheet of 2.5-inch circle labels. Print on full-sheet sticker paper and cut by hand or with a 2.5-inch circle punch. They are not sized for a specific Avery template. The file is for personal use only, and no email signup is required. Get it from A Cultivated Nest’s free Christmas mason jar labels.

Christmas lights lid toppers. Carla Schauer Designs offers a free Christmas Lights canning set with “Christmas Lights” and “Holiday Lights” colors. Each topper is 2.75 inches across, with about 2.25 inches of design showing through a canning ring. Print, punch or cut the circle, and place it under the ring. The download is on the Christmas lights canning jar labels page.

Greeting lid labels. Marty’s Musings shares three free Christmas mason jar printables: Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, and From Our Home to Yours. Click each file on the post and print at home, then cut and tape or glue to the lid. The links sit at the bottom of the Christmas mason jar labels and tags post.

Design your own. Avery’s jar label maker is free to use in a browser. You can edit templates, add a gift name, and print at home. The design tool is free. The blank label sheets are not. Buy the matching Avery product number before you print. Start at the Avery free jar label maker.

How to print them so they fit?

Use US Letter paper (8.5 by 11 inches). In the print dialog, choose Actual size or 100 percent scale. “Fit to page” shrinks circles and they will not match the lid.

For a stick-on finish, use full-sheet sticker paper or the Avery size named on the download page. Cardstock works if you plan to tie the label on with baker’s twine. A 2-inch or 2.5-inch circle punch saves time on round lid labels.

Print one test page on plain paper first. Hold it against the lid. If the circle is too big, switch to the regular-mouth file or scale only that test sheet.

How to attach a label?

For a lid topper, cut the circle, set it on the flat lid, and screw the ring down over it. That is the cleanest look and needs no glue.

For a side label, stick it on dry glass centered between the seams. A strip of clear packing tape over paper labels keeps jam jars from smearing in the fridge.

Ribbon or twine around the neck hides a plain metal band. Add the contents and a “best by” date in pen if the printable does not have a line for it.

Quick gift ideas that fit a jar

A pint jar holds a single batch of cookie mix or a neighbor gift of snack mix. A half-pint jelly jar suits jam, spice rubs, and hot cocoa. Wide-mouth quarts work for layered soup mix or a family-size candy jar.

Write the recipe on a second small tag if the mix needs to be baked. Recipients should not have to guess ratios.

FAQ

Are these Christmas jar labels really free? The four craft downloads above are free PDFs for personal use. Avery’s design tool is free. You still buy sticker paper or blank Avery sheets if you want peel-and-stick labels.

What size label fits a mason jar lid? A 2-inch to 2.5-inch circle fits most regular-mouth lids. Use a 2.75-inch to 3-inch circle for wide-mouth lids. When a site offers both, download the mouth size that matches your jar.

Can I print on plain paper? Yes. Cut the label and tape it to the lid, or punch a hole and tie it on. Sticker paper looks more finished and holds up better on a jar that will be opened.

Can I sell jars with these labels? Most of these files are marked for personal use only. Do not sell the printables or use them on products you sell unless the creator’s license says you can.
